Long before there was ever an Audi R8 or Audi TT, there were a series of interesting sports car concepts from Audi. One of the most memorable was this 1991 Audi Quattro Spyder Concept. I still have no idea why they didn’t make it….it looked spectacularly cool.
They didn’t build it because it would’ve cost a fortune with the rear engine and no way to put it onto any existing platform back then, like they could do later with the TT.
I saw it first when it was presented I believe at the Frankfurt auto show. Gorgeous back then.
Saw it again in real life at the Essen Motor Show last year. Still incredibly gorgeous from all angles. I spent around a quarter of an hour circling around it. More or less noone else was interested in it – a shame, but I had it for myself mostly 🙂 Still I would take it just as it is – but also keep the TT…
