I read your caption and thought WOW. Bangle was TERRIBAD for BMW. I understand his designs were polarizing and he was trying to move car design into the future (and some day we will know whether he was successful), but when you are trying to sell something like cars TODAY, alienating half of your demographic is not a wise move for moving units. While I agree with you that this revision of the 6 is pretty uninspiring, bringing back crazy looking mismatched trunk lids like on the 7 series and saggy body lines like those on the 3 and 1 series isn’t going to help make these cars look more muscular or aggressive to potential buyers!
my friend, i simply cannot agree with you! Truth be told, i really did not like Bangle designs when they were coming out—however I have always been a fan of the 1-series and it’s droopy sides. But the reality is that every carmaker copied the Bangle BMW designs. Whether that is a good thing or not, i’m not sure because the copies are boring as a butcher in a flower garden. However, at least they were pushing boundaries, doing something different, having a bit of character. This latest 6-series could easily be an Infinity or a Lexus or a Hyundai even! There is nothing BMW about this design, aside from the grille. I think the Bangle designs have aged quite well (aside from the horrific 7-series)…..i would much rather see something challenging, than this terrible, generic crap they are coming up with now!
