4C vs. Artega GT.

After the massive failure of this morning’s Alfa Romeo 4c debut in Geneva—–i was obsessed with the idea that this car has completely plagiarized the Artega GT.  Then i looked at the photos—–and was astounded by the similarities.  If this car is not an Artega GT, then Artega should sue the shit out of Alfa Romeo—–and Alfa Romeo should hang their heads in shame!

Let me be clear….i LOVE the Artega GT—it is truly one of my favourite sports cars on sale at the moment, and i am anxiously awaiting their arrival to the US—-but to see Alfa Romeo plagiarize a design so blatantly offends the side of me that loves Alfa Romeo (and yes, count me in the clans of Alfisti who have been waiting for Alfa to come back to this country)

In this case, they both have copied Porsche Cayman 🙂

I feel tears welling up in my eyes….Alfa is dead…

  3. Feketelaszlo says:

    No, they’re both Lotus Evoras.

the Artega was penned before the Evora…has nothing to do with the Evora…..and even if there are similarities–the Artega is far more muscular. There is a definite presence of the Artega design within the 4C….from any angle, not just this photo.

Second comment: I see nothing common in the 2 cars, look at the windshield, the mirrors, the wheels, the face. They might look similar, but only because they’re photoed from the same angle. The Alfa is stylish, the Artega is sporty, 2 separate design-principle.

    • Syed says:

“nothing in common”? congratulations! you have just been voted “Blindest Commenter on IEDEI” mate!! haha….surely i kid…but anyone can see there are definitely similarities.

    • Syed says:

and surely even if it was…it would have different mirrors, wheels, etc….Alfa aren’t that dim.

I see similarities but in no way think that Alfa have copied the design. A lot of the design decisions in the modern automotive world are down to legislation rules positioning of various elements like the engine the transmission even airbags and integrated bumpers. So it absolutely normal that two compact mid-engined cars to have somewhat common shape.

And by the way I really like the design I feel it’s one of those case when the car doesn’t photograph well but is absolutely gorgeous in person.

And by the way I love the Artega too.

    • Syed says:

haha…i believe you are right that it is not a rebodied Artega…i think that was merely my morning excitement kicking in! ha. HOWEVER the car is definitely VERY similar to the 4C….and Alfa have surely drawn some lines from it——I love the Artega GT—i think it is gorgeous…..i can’t really say that about the Alfa…

I`m sorry mate but you have an obsession about cars copying ather cars(the honda and the merc).for all we know both alfa and artega copied porsche cayman, lotus elise and even the f430.overall yes it`s a similar shape(aerodinamic coeficient maybe? ) but I think it`s just wrong to say without proper facts that alfa copied artega.

    • Syed says:

the Merc is a dead ringer for the Honda—-i know i’m not the only one who thinks that, man!

I really dislike ‘unoriginal’ design. Alfa Romeo is a marque with such a fantastic history of uniqueness, of their own flair for design—-it is utterly sad to see them sink to these levels of being influenced by others’ designs….i see a lot of similarity between the 2….but i am reminded that we each possess different sets of eyes!!

  7. Rob says:

Calling either of these cars a copy of a Porsche Cayman is an insult towards the Alfa and the Artega. ffs.

    • Syed says:

i agree that it is an insult to the Artega…..but probably a compliment to the Alfa….up for debate i suppose!

Seriously, the Artega GT is the first car that came to my mind when I saw the 4C at Geneva. Going as far as to say that the Alfa is a blatant copy of the german is a bit too much, but the shape and the size and proportions are definitely the same. I actually posted a comment on TAU saying this… I see we have the same point of view then 🙂

  9. Eric says:

The Artega is much prettier and deserved a much better fate. As a matter of fact, I consider the Artega Fisker’s best design. The Alfa 4C forms a hype, because it is RWD and meant to be produced in limited numbers, coming from a car company that is famous for its mass-produced FWD cars. You might hate the established car makers for doing so (killing interesting new designs), but there is one concept Fiat should really consider producing, and that is Hrabalek’s Stratos. What would be easier than to base his spectacular Stratos on the Alfa 4C’s basis? Risk is that it will definitely outshine the 4C… and that Marchionne will need to reconsider his Lancia strategy.
