UPDATE! Apparently the neu Alpine will be unveiled as the “Zar” concept. (thank you GentlemanScooper)
According to the excellent and interesting Renaud Roubaudi, the details are that Renault will debut a NEW Alpine 2 days before the 2012 Monaco Grand Prix! Details as follows:
(translated from french)
“I confirm that the new Alpine Renault will be officially unveiled in Monaco Friday, May 25, the surrounding of 13h30/14 h and a World Champion Formula 1. After doing some laps on the circuit, the Alpine will park in front of the barge moored in the Red Bull Monaco harbor which will be held the press conference. Carlos Tavares, Executive Vice President of Operations for Renault, Laurens van den Acker, Design Director of Renault and Alain Prost, Renault Ambassador , will present all three. And POA that will immortalize this memorable day on video …”
2 days before that update, Renaud Roubadi also posted this:
“New Renault Alpine to be unveiled as a concept Monaco Friday, May 25, two days before the Grand Prix Formula 1.Renault officially announces the presentation of an iconic car turns 50, but make no mistake, this is the Alpine 2012 which made a big comeback. We also learn in the press release it develops 400 hp and it will do some laps. Nice publicity stunt for global fallout this revival. We expect everyone to discover the beautiful design. Neo retro or new style? ”
400hp? that sounds weird. It better NOT be a GT-R or a 370z rebadged.
Is it true? I hope so and i hope not. I’m scared to see what Renault have planned for this ‘resurrection’…..my info has suggested it will be a lightweight sports car, possibly electric or gas/electric hybrid. All i know is that if it is a 370z with new badges, there is an 80% chance I will have a seizure from disappointment. Either way, a debut in Monaco sounds like a pretty flashy debut for a new Alpine, but with the A110’s grand history of Monte Carlo rally—-it seems somewhat suitable I must say!
“to be unveiled as a concept ” , so not a real production car, it means that it could be slightly a different car IF they produce it, the top of the brand with a another smaller product later by example.
very true Seth! I am guessing they will look at public reaction to this ZAR concept, and then adjust the design and idea accordingly for a production version. This is very exciting though!
And now , we know its name . It’s ZAR
how did you find out the name!? excellent!
also…are you with BlogAutomobile.FR? If you are, please remove some of the Vettel and A110 photos and post a link to this blog……the photographer sent me these photos and you should credit this blog instead of publishing them all and not linking to here….thank you.

With pleasure , I do this in few minutes . Only three picture ok 😉
Friendly
thank you, man! much appreciated 🙂
I modified the article and put a link. With pleasure !
And for the name ZAR, I just have a few relationships in the center of guyancourt and friends at Renault
The 400 hp bit sure has my suspicions on full alert . Sorry to say its sounding more like Badge Engineering ( probably the GT-R like you suspect ) than original new Alpine .
We’ll see if ;
A) Any of these rumors are true
B) What we’ll get if they are
C) And if its ever produced if it does in fact exist
I won’t hold my breath
Well…. for what its worth after an extensive search on the internet as well as questioning a few industry insiders its looking like this’ll be a Badge Engineered GT-R rather than a 21st century A110 . So at best an over bloated GTA …. maybe . As to the name I’m not finding any collaborating evidence to support the ZAR moniker . Might be it but no one else is saying so . Several have stated a couple of monikers starting with Z , but not ZAR specifically . Anyone have a clue WTH a ZAR might be ?
yeah i really hope it is NOT a GT-R rebadged…..it would be a disaster to see a 1800kg front-engined AWD Alpine!!!! lol…..earlier in the year, i’d been tipped that the new Alpine would be a lightweight electric car…..which would be infinitely more interesting than a rebadged GT-R…….i don’t know what “Zar” is either….although maybe it’s just a concept code name for now, and then a production version would be designated differently! Either way…pretty exciting times to see what is waiting for debut!
