The Coldest City On Earth.

This is YAKUTSK in Siberia.  Is it really that cold, you ask?

“No other place on the planet experiences the temperature extreme found here: in winter, the temperatures regularly fall to minus 40° (the coldest temperature recorded was -64°C) and in summer often reaches temperatures above 30°C”

Yakutsk has a population of 270,000 people (!).

vintage racing photos from the USSR!

Who would have thought that behind the clenched fists of the iron curtain, old school russians used to gather on the streets and partake in hardcore racing! No ads on the cars, the cars themselves didn’t have hardcore, hi-revving engines….they were basically street cars (mainly Ladas!) racing against each other, with drivers struggling to prove themselves in an isolated, communist society. I find these photos quite cryptic and mysterious—-but in a very cool way!
