photomanipulation….before photoshop.

I’m not a fan of Photoshop for photo modification, as i find it cumbersome and overused by people.  That being said…there is something more primitively charming about photomanipulation BEFORE the advent of computer software aids.   Does it make it any more acceptable? No, not really!  But they are interesting to look at.  Somewhere in the future…some kid is going to read (absorb?) an article like this about Photoshop and say “oh how primitive they were back then!”

RGB colourspace atlas.

A 3000+ page book displaying the entire spectrum of colours?  Useful? uhhhh……wicked cool? YES.  This 8 x 8 x 8 inch cube shaped atlas would be available in different colour axis configurations.  Would make for a lovely psychedelic coffee table book.

Audi book: “A History of Progress”

bentley_gah2_cv_large

I picked up this book yesterday at the VW/Audi Waterfest event, directly from the booth that Bentley Publishers had.  around 300 pages, with ALOT of vintage photographs detailing the history of Audi.  Really great stuff, and alot of text outlining the history of Audi as a company; dating back to the original and early cars under separate brands.

The photos are all in monotone blue-white tint, however it adds a sense of unity between all the photos i find.  This is the 2nd edition, published in 2003 updated through the year 2000.  Definitely worth checking out if you’re an Audiphile like I am.  $39 available directly from Bentley

my Valentine’s Day gift: “Speed Of Life” by Mikael Jansson

Obviously my wife really loves me.  She bought me this book for Valentine’s Day today and it is utterly fantastic.  Tons and tons of remarkable, artistic photographs for Formula One drivers, pit crews, cars, the chaos, tracks, fans, etc…..it’s just a beautifully put together documentation of the art within F1 racing.

Mikael Jansson is a fashion photographer, who left his roots to spend several years doing F1 photography, and he really captures the essence of the greatest current racing sport in the world.
