TTS.

There were prettier, faster, more glamourous, more hyped, and more revered small coupes from that era (mid 60s)—but i would argue none of them were as COOL as the NSU TTS.  rear-engined.  rear-wheel drive.  and definitely the most aggressive looking of them all.  Eat your heart out, italians!

file under: off the beaten path, away from mainstream admiration (thankfully).

Renault Icons: Alpine A110 videos.

alpine-a110-renault-icons

Renault TV posted these official videos in celebration of their history and the resurrection of the Alpine marque.  Car videos are mostly uninspiring, materialistic nonsense–but these Alpine A110 videos are out of this world….maybe because the car is out of this world?

Best part….it’s in English!  So my rudimentary and primitive French translation doesn’t have to be challenged like it normally does with Alpine videos.

Matra 670.

Le Mans is coming in June!  Exciting times this year with the return of Alpine.  What better way to celebrate than a tribute to the wonderful Matra 670.   The video at the bottom is really quite wicked.

this beautiful painting is by Yuriy Shevchuk:

self portraits by Tseng Kwong Chi.

Today I had some time to kill while waiting for an annual NYS car inspection for the TT, so i walked over to a bookstore and saw a book of B&W photographs by Tseng Kwong Chi and was struck by their coolness.  These photos were taken in the 1980s and published in a series known as East Meets West.

To me, he comes across like a futuristic asian tourist-slash-government official investigator! brilliant.

A110 of the day.

For many of the new readers, you should know I am *obsessed* with the Alpine A110 (and Alpine as a marque in general). that is all.  My general interest in automotive topics continues to wither and fade, but Alpines and Audis seem to be completely immune to this destructive force.

joining the stable: Leica M5.

As you may have noticed, i’ve become quite enamored with photography these days.  Here is my latest purchase, a like-new, mint condition Leica M5.  To me, this is THE coolest Leica M camera ever made (along with the M Monochrome….dream on!)….i’d been wanting one for a while—-and now I have a shiny, perfect example of one purchased as NM/new old stock!  Still working on the first roll of B&W film.

It’s a strange feeling taking photos and not previewing them digitally on the screen instantly; BUT it makes for a really great partner to the wonderful M8.1 I have been using these days.  Digital and film; the best of both worlds! I am very happy with this combination.

I also have a Chiyoda Kogoku Super Rokkor 50mm F1.8 LTM lens on order, which will be then going onto the camera.  For now, I have the CV 35mm F1.4 mounted…..temporarily.

Let creativity flow!

origins of IEDEI (2004-2007)

Far before IEDEI was turned into a car blog, (then subsequently shut as that) there was a series of photographs I was putting together between 2004 and 2007 for which I was using the “IEDEI” label.  There were supposed to be 1000 of them (youthful overambition), however in the end only 15 or 20 were made.   Photography, however, is about to make its way back to me big time in the next few weeks and months—with a purchase of a very special camera!

Here are some of those “original” IEDEI photos taken between 2004 and 2007….and displayed with various iterations of the IEDEI logo—-some cool, some not so much!  Either way, they are inspiring to the future of this site and remind me of what originally started the site.

Vintage Porsche factory pics.

These are beautiful, taken in 1972.  I happened to stumble across these as I was searching for the source for a different Porsche factory photo I had posted a long time ago.  Happy accident!

Yes, do you have a brochure for a 1965 Matra Djet?

Why, yes of course.

I love the Matra Djet, not just because it was a slightly odder looking, lesser successful, weirdo cousin of the Alpine A110; but because on its own right it is pretty damn wickedly cool!

Illustrated by Colin Anderson

why can’t modern car magazines be this creative with their covers?  Instead they just put synthetic, advertising-like covers up.  Blah.

the beautiful and dusty.

These photos may look like they are from 1968, however they are not.  They were photographed by Atelier Olschinsky in 2011 at the Red Bull Ring.  Quite lovely, as well.

the new Heuer Monaco McQueen watches.

I love Tag Heuer/Heuer watches, however I do know that they now have a bazillion versions of the same watch in the Monaco. It’s a watch I love, and aspire to own a version of someday—-although I will admit that the watch has become a bit of a cliche within the watch world.  Do i really care? No, not really.  I still really want that black dialed Monaco McQueen edition they had made a few years ago with the Gulf colours—–however i am really digging the progressive look of these new versions.
