Watch Le Mans 2013! (updated)

R18 etron 2013

Need a place to watch Le Mans 2013?? Every year I put up the links I am using to watch Le Mans.  The greatest race in the world is back……on one side of my mind, I have an Audi Sport flag waving and on the other side I have a blue Alpine flag waving for LMP2.  Either way….this is the motor racing event of the year and definitely worth watching.

Here are some links to watch, listen, and follow (these will be updated throughout the next 24 hours).  Please feel free to make any suggestions to other good sources.

EUROSPORT <——- superb link, British Eurosport in with English commentary

EUROSPORT #2 (also British Eurosport, thank you Ricardo for the link!)

ACO Le Mans

24-LeMans.com

Listen to fantastically detailed commenting at Radio Le Mans

LIVE TIMING via WEC! the best way to follow what’s going on with the positions, as well as interviews and videos

Audi Sport, onboard the R18s with Radio Le Mans commentary

My suggestion? find a video feed you like—and turn on Radio Le Mans and mute the video.

Go Alpine! Go Audi!

Where to watch Le Mans online! (streaming)

I will be updating this during the course of the next 24 hours.  Unfortunately I am not able to embed any of these sources directly onto here, so the best I can do is link to some sources.  If one of them fails, use the others as alternatives!

Edit @ Noon, US EST:  I now have a great French-English Le Mans TV live video feed embedded in this post!  Just click the play button.  This feed should be reliable for 24 hours.  If you don’t like the bilingual feed, my suggestion would be to play this video feed and listen to Radio Le Mans (linked below) at the same time.

These are not scams! these are good, hopefully reliable sources to stream the best race on earth!

SOURCE 3 (Le Mans-TV, French-English, watch it on IEDEI!)

SOURCE 1 (Eurosport) (Not working)

SOURCE 2 (Eurosport)

SOURCE 4 (English, average quality)

SOURCE 5 (Eurosport, better quality)

SOURCE 6 (Eurosport, better quality)

SOURCE 7 (Eurosport, better quality)

Le Mans Live (Live timing, Multiple on-board views, thanks Serge)

Audi TV (cockpit view, intermittent other views)

Audi TV #2 (cockpit view)

Radio Le Mans (audio feed)

Baekdal Live Timing (great live timing feed! thanks Piotr)

more to come soon!

need a place to stream Le Mans?

Here’s a link i know is working if you do not have access to SPEED in the USA.

BTW, you can also stream the broadcast from SPEED when they are not live on TV, like right now—–so from 11:30am to 3:30 PM US Eastern Standard time and 8pm to 11pm US Eastern Standard time.  I am not posting a direct link here to protect the Justin.tv feed—–but to go Speedtv.com and follow the Le Mans info there.

Le Mans week is here!

Rejoice! The finest week in motorsports has arrived—–the race of all races, the 24 Hours Of Le Mans is upon us.  For many people this signals the proper start to ‘summer’, including myself.  Of course it is no secret that I am an Audiphile through and through—-it is also no secret that Audi and Peugeot have had some fierce battles in the past several years, culminating in one of the great rivalries in motorsports history.  Motorsports have these days become numb and unexciting; however Le Mans has retained most of its charm.  I still get a buzz every time i see the start of the race, even though it is not nearly as dramatic as the old days when people ran into their cockpits.

So will the new Audi R18 TDI be able to surmount the fierce Peugeot 918 HDi reign?  I would like to hope so, but we’ll just have to follow along the best we can!

I know that the entire 24 hours will be broadcasted with continuity in Europe on Eurosport TV, however we are not so lucky in the US.  That being said, we live in the age of bootlegged online TV—-and i’m quite sure many many feeds from Europe will surface that day.  If they don’t, Audi have set up a fantastic minisite which will go live the day of the race.  They will have 24 hour live on-board coverage of the three R18 TDIs which are racing—–accompanied by live telemetry and race data.  Fantastic.

I will add some more links and information to other feeds as the race gets closer—–obviously I cannot watch all 24 hours—-but I always watch as many hours of coverage as I possibly can.

Another great source of race day coverage is of course the fantastic Radio Le Mans<

BMW E30 M3 Evo…..with 59 km? and another with 92 km!? NEW!

An amazing story, of a guy who found an E30 M3 Evo sitting brand new……….not even just a regular E30 M3, but an EVO! amazing.

as he puts it:

“The car has not been started or driven for 20years, so will need recommissioning, its booked into a BMW main dealer next week for all fluids, filters and belts a to be changed before its started for the first time in 20 years. Its never been cleaned and has never seen rain and very little day light!!! its just been sat there and forgotten about!!! hence the original 20 year old dust, i quite like it like that it just show’s provenance that the car really was forgotten about!!!  When its been cleaned and serviced i’ll post more pics”

WAIT A MINUTE!!! There’s more.

he found ANOTHER identical  M3 Evo sitting right next to it with 92 KM and bought the 2nd one as well!! Unbelievable.

at which point, he posted:

“Well ive got some more news for you all!!!!! Sorry just showing off now.  Have another look at the photo’s you will see that the cars are sat on different surfaces!!!!!!!!!!!!! There’s not one there were two identical cars both parked next to each other for 20yrs. Ones done 59 kilometers the other has done 92 kilometers”

so he bought both……..AND the RS200 Cosworth!

Google & BBC working on international iPlayer?

clarkson_iplayer

Why do we care? Because F1 races are broadcasted live in BBCs iPlayer.  The problem currently is that outside of the UK, it is very difficult to gain access to UK-only, restricted programming.

Could this mean, that it might be possible for people to watch BBC broadcasting of F1 over BBC instead of the dismal, depressing SPEED channel broadcasts?  I’d say chances are slim that the BBC will screw SPEED over, but hey if they do i’m sure there will be plenty of US F1 fans cheering!

Audiworld is dead. Long Live Quattroworld!

quattroworld

FILE UNDER: petrolhead culture & community

In one of the most dramatic shifts of web community power i’ve ever seen, the core membership of Audiworld packed their bags and busted out into another brand new forum under the name Quattroworld.

Audiworld was originally started by Audi enthusiasts back in 1999 (thanks for the correction, Matt), and it turned very successful over the years—so successful that it was eventually purchased by parasitic Internet Brands, a company known for taking over forums (especially car forums).  Since the takeover, IB had been desperately trying to change the format from an older open source code of KAWF to a newer, more common Vbulletin forum system.

Result? Vbulletin was completely rejected by the users of the forum.

The transition was a mess, a sloppy forum, ruined historical AW posts, and a core member base set irate by the destruction of the long standing, successful, and active Audi community.  Quattroworld started itself like a makeshift emergency center, immediately launching KAWF forums which heralded a return to original AW form—and the core members piled into QW.  The result? Audiworld appears all but abandoned, a mess of new members which may even be ‘hired’ by IB (people do hire forum posters online, to help promote new forums), and a core base which has left.  Within 48 hours, the number of users who joined Quattroworld was close to 3000.  Those 3000 undoubtedly contributed at least 80% of the posting done on Audiworld, if not more.

Verdict: the community prevailed in the end, held together like glue by an outdated, but extremely usable format which works, and allows all of Quattroworld’s users to maintain the forum architecture they grew accustomed to for so many years.

Audiworld is dead.  Long live Quattroworld!
