TT Ultra quattro Concept.

2450 pounds. (a reduction of 660 pounds!)

306hp

wow.  I never thought i’d see an Audi TT with such a low weight.  I think the MK2 TT was a major design flop as I think the MK1 is one of THE great designs in automotive history…but this weight reduction is almost enough to make me forgive the MK2’s unforgivable design flaws.  Audi, you’ve impressed me yet again.

first snow.

a couple of weeks ago on a beautiful saturday, we got our first snowfall of this winter! in October (!?).  Needless to say it was a beautiful day, and I played around with the TT all day through all sorts of weird streets, empty parking lots, and running errands for my wife who basically thinks i’m crazy for wanting to drive in the snow all day long.

For the first time ever, i will be putting dedicated snow tires on the A3 this year—mainly because I drive over 100 miles a day now for my job.  Once I get the snows on that, there will be plenty of photos this winter.

WINTER IS BACK! oh how i’ve missed you…

the beauty of the TT.

The MK1 Audi TT is just all types of wonderful.  I’m not just saying that because I have one in the garage—-but because before I got my car—-i fantasized day and night about it, sort of how I fantasize day and night about the Alpine A110 and ur quattro now.  The TT is more than a car, it is true art—-representing a point where history met with the modern world—–technology fell in love with the vintage.   It could have been produced in 1965, or it could have been produced in 2005.

These photos are not of my car, however I stumbled across them looking at photos on Flickr.  These are taken by Chun Yi of his impeccable 2000 225.

foto of the day. Cougar.

I grew up in Detroit, and was surrounded by muscle cars growing up—-but my favourite ones were the ones i did not see that often; hence my liking of the 1967 Mercury Cougar, the understated brother to the Ford Mustang.  If i had to pick a muscle car for my dream garage, this would be the one!

the failed CRX resurrection.

When i was a kid i LOVED the Honda CRX.  Maybe because it was small, maybe because it looked like a pure sports car, maybe because it came in cool bright colours, maybe because it just looked badass!  I’m not sure why the CRX was discontinued.  The car Honda released as a successor was more of a rival for the Mazda Miata—-and had sort of lost the plot of the original CRX.  The Del Sol was much different, with a weird targa roof and sort of a more california beach car look….i still liked the Del Sol when it came out, but not nearly as much as i loved the CRX.

Last year, Honda introduced the CR-Z, which is clearly a hommage to the original CRX.  I have to say i am NOT a fan—the car looks more like a Prius or an Insight rather than the original CRX.  The rear is way too high, the front is way too overstyled, and the car is just too big.  What a shame…..Honda wonders why their sales are plummeting in the US market—-it’s not hard to figure out why.  They are producing bland, Honda-by-the-numbers.   Even their attempt at an ‘interesting’ CRX-redux resulted in a weird looking hybrid that doesn’t appeal to people like us who loved the CRX growing up.

foto(s) of the day. a MK2 TT?

Well i’m not a fan of the MK2 TT’s weird styling….in fact i think the styling sucks!  But holy hell i spotted this one linked to on QW today and i gotta say it looks great…probably the best modified MK2 i’ve seen and definitely the only NON TT-RS MK2 i’ve seen that really gets me going.  So maybe it does have potential?

……but it’s no MK1….that’s for sure…..but this one looks pretty damn good.
