wow. I never thought i’d see an Audi TT with such a low weight. I think the MK2 TT was a major design flop as I think the MK1 is one of THE great designs in automotive history…but this weight reduction is almost enough to make me forgive the MK2’s unforgivable design flaws. Audi, you’ve impressed me yet again.

The Maserati Bora is a classy 70s supercar in my mind—and i’ve always thought of it as the ‘kind, gentle, relaxed’ 70s italian supercar—-with its soft lines, non-aggressive stance, and its non-angry look. Compared to other 70s italian supercars, the Bora (as well as its sister car Merak) have generally come across as the gentleman in a fine wool blazer compared to its riotous peers in gold chains and silk shirts.
What I never knew is that in 1973, Maserati was set to enter the Bora into Le Mans as part of the gran touring class. Its competition would have surely been the likes of the Ferrari Daytona which had won in 1972. As i’ve understood the story from QV500.com, Maserati needed to sell 500 Boras to get it homologated for these 1973 races—-which they obviously didn’t do. Additionally the car didn’t meet the ‘other’ standards for other classes—-meaning that the Bora Competizione (or Bora GR4 or Bora Group 4) never made it onto the the starting grid, and this car was lost into the archives of 70s mystery cars. I wasn’t even aware of this car, until I stumbled across a photo of a strange looking Bora, which upon investigation resulted in a search which yielded minimal photos, information, or data. The McLaren MP4 can do blahblahblahblahblah in blah.blah seconds. It can reach a top speed of blahblahblahblahblah. It has technology everywhere, including a blahblahblahblahblahblah….it is the successor to the legendary blahblahblahblahblah.
Don’t even care. It’s so bland and painfully boring from every angle. It looks like a rejected 90s build-your-own-supercar-kit-car. Yeah you copied a Ferrari from the front, you copied the outline of an R8, and you tried add some Lamborghini-ness……BLAH BLAH BLAH. blech.

Who is gonna buy a $200k+ Lexus? I know most people who are shopping for a car with a $200k budget are certainly NOT going to. So who is gonna buy it? The Japanese, probably…and maybe some arab and korean billionaires. Who is gonna ditch a Lambo to buy this? or a GT3? or an F458 Italia?
Obviously, Lexus are making this car for image’s sake—however it certainly doesn’t have a classic shape in any way, in fact it reminds me (almost a little too much) of those awkward “sports cars’ they used to sell in the 80s and 90s—like the Dodge Stealth, Subaru SVX, and Nissan 300zx. Cheesy, at best…
So congratulations Lexus, you’ve built one hell of an ugly supercar. But what can it do? Looks like pretty standard supercar stuff as you can read below. Nothing a Porsche turbo can’t deal with…
