neu Alpine to be co-developed with Caterham.

Just a few days ago, I speculated that Lotus was a possibility for co-developing the new Alpine Berlinette after Carlos Tavares’ statements in Autocar.  A few days later, Autocar is reporting that Caterham will indeed be the expected partner to develop the new Alpine!  Great news for those of us who have been awaiting news that this will be a lightweight true hommage to the original A110.  The concept A110-50 stayed true to those beliefs in being lightweight and performance-oriented; and it seems the production Alpine will as well.

Apparently Caterham will also develop their own model alongside the new Alpine.  Should be very interesting to see what comes out of this relationship.  Here’s hoping for a lightweight, technologically advanced interpretation of what came before.

More news as it comes.  Thank you to Michal and CollaVerglas for the tip to this update!

Progress of the Alpine resurrection.

Carlos Tavares (Renault CEO) has been talking some details about the resurrection of Alpine!  It seems it will be a completely new car, and NOT the A110-50 that was shown several months ago.  Should be very, very interesting.

My bet is that Lotus is going to be involved in this….as Lotus and Alpine have a history of collaboration.

from Autocar:

Carlos Tavares:

“We could have given our engineers €50 million and told them to make the best of it. But that would probably have produced a mediocre car because it’s not much money to play with. Alpine has a great history, and we want to make emotional cars that will be true to that.”

“He won’t yet reveal the mechanical layout but admits it is unlikely to be rear-engined, as the A110 was.”

“Convenience is an important part of modern packaging,” Tavares says, “but we are not inclined to compromise too much. This is a car that must appeal to the emotions. If you refine such a car too much, it loses its special character.”

The production Alpine will bear little relation to the Alpine concept from earlier this year that incorporated the styling of the DeZir concept on to a Mégane Trophy racer.

IEDEI bids farewell.

It is with a heavy heart that i’ve decided to discontinue updating IEDEI.  I have thoroughly enjoyed posting over the last nearly 4 years and have enjoyed talking and meeting many of you.  I am only one person, and simply do not have the capacity to go on posting.  It is unfortunate at a time when the blog has been rapidly gaining popularity—-however I simply do not have the time, emotion, or capacity to research and update as I would like.  Many posts I make are not simply uploading a photo or linking to outside places.  To find that content takes time…..it takes passion….and it takes effort.

With all of this being said…it’s possible that in the future I may re-start this site, however at this time I am not thinking about it.  I’ve loved cars since the age of 2…however I’ve also realised that over time—things change.

As a fitting final post….i would like to leave you with a simply wonderful video of 2 cars I love—-and one of which is the center of which everything on this blog was inspired by: the Alpine A110.

Please feel free to email me at IEDEIblog@gmail.com if you’d ever like to collaborate on any projects, or if you’d like me to write an article….or if you just want to talk.   The IEDEI site will remain online for the time being, as an archive for people to find and enjoy.

Much love to the gear shifting brothas.  This video is for you.

video of the day. chassis test.

Before the fantastic Renault Alpine A110-50 put on its futuristic body, it underwent testing!  As we know, the A110-50 is based on the Megane Trophy, and has been adapted and tweaked into the A110-50.  It’s pretty wicked to watch the skeleton going around the track…courtesy of the excellent Type 01

introducing: the Alpine A110-50!

In all its glory.  I only have one word i can say right now: WANT

I am severely biased towards anything Alpine….but honestly lately i’ve REALLY been getting into ‘futuristic’ cars meeting ‘vintage’ in their philosophy…..and THIS is just brilliant.  Magical, even.  Renault read my mind.

big thanks to my friend Jon for tipping me about these photos!  Unfortunately they are low-resolution; however i’m sure there will be plenty of high-res pics after tomorrow.  Tomorrow there should be a lot more information about the technical specs, such as exact engine (400hp V6?)—but what we can confirm is that it is mid-engined.

Alpine Zar/A110-50 design pretty much confirmed (+ video teaser)

So while i stand by my statement that the previous A110-50/Zar photo was indeed a photoshop, it appears the design itself is pretty much how the ‘new’ Alpine concept is going to look! (big thank you to Neo Luxembourg for these tips!)

this photo was published by Renault themselves!

And then there’s this photo of a bloke working on a clay model, which looks basically exactly like the photoshopped picture!  This was published on Figaro and the photo is on Worldscoop HERE:

additionally, Renault have released a 30 second video clip ‘teaser’….which I am not able to embed on this site, however you can watch it here!
