I knew that the new MB CLS was meant to be one of the first cars to be sold with full LED headlights along with the C7 Audi A6—- however the lights in full led setup looks pretty striking in real life.
The original AMG…..the daddy of ALL AMG cars.
“In its early years, AMG concentrated on building racing cars based on the Mercedes-Benz 300 SE sedan and competing in European touring car races. The first racing success came in 1971, when a Mercedes 300 SEL 6.3, modified by AMG with a 6.9-liter engine, took a surprise class victory in the 24-hour race at Spa in Belgium, finishing in second place overall. The 1971 success proved to be the springboard for an enviable record on the track that has continued to this day and has formed a cornerstone of the AMG philosophy (see AMG racing history at end of this section)”
I’m hearing $225,000+ and mid 3s for 0-60 for the 2011 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Gullwing. It’s been tested extensively on the Nurburgring, so i’m guessing it’ll have some handling behind it. I think the styling is a bit BLAH, considering the glorious original Gullwing it is attempting to replicate the feeling of. Obviously, this is one of those ‘modern retro’ type projects (e.g. Camaro, BMW Z8, etc…), and although it may look several times more striking in real life; the photos don’t seem to really give out the feeling of ‘classic’ just yet. I do love the interior though…..very sharp—-even though the automatic transmission looks like crap sitting in an interior as nice as that one.
IEDEI has turned the ‘official’ SLS photos into B&W, to see if it fits the bill of ‘classic’…..download the photos in hi-res after clicking each one twice…..and then YOU decide whether it’s a classic or not!
Well, it’s undoubtedly one of the great icons in automotive history, the famous Gullwing Mercedes coupes of the 50s. We all know that Mercedes has been testing prototypes of the car very openly…and although very concealed, have provided insight into the direction MB are headed in…
Below are some ‘new’ sketches found on the Top Gear site, along with a couple original spy photos and what Top Gear claim, are the ‘actual’ interior shots of the production car. Either way, the car looks fantastic. Can’t wait to see the final product.

Going back to the 60s for design? MB has decided that it’s going back to the 80s………..the 1880s! The new F-Cell Roadster Concept takes the design from the original, first car ever produced in the world—-the 1886 buggy made by Mercedes Benz!
Full details are not out yet, but the car is controlled by a joystick, has a top speed of only 25 km/h, and a hydrogen fuel cell technology for power. I really dig the stitched leather seats, which are laying over the carbon fibre seats (imagine that on a 1886 car!). The body is composed of lightweight carbon fibre and F1 type fibreglass. Very interesting stuff…click here to see more photos! Continue reading
