video of the day. RS5

I consider the Audi RS5 to be the ultimate manifestation of the germans trying to build a “muscle car”…..along with some of the Mercedes AMG line…….this is some great footage of an RS5 rolling through the desolate smooth roads in the desert—-almost reminds me of scenes from the film “Vanishing Point”!

No music or commentary to get in the way either! just the sweet sound of a V8!

Such a desirable car in that shape and in that form—i think the original A5/S5 already looked beautiful, but with a widened stance, fender flares, and those extra RS touches; it really gets its point across!  Fantastic.

MB 300 SEL 6.3 AMG

The original AMG…..the daddy of ALL AMG cars.

“In its early years, AMG concentrated on building racing cars based on the Mercedes-Benz 300 SE sedan and competing in European touring car races. The first racing success came in 1971, when a Mercedes 300 SEL 6.3, modified by AMG with a 6.9-liter engine, took a surprise class victory in the 24-hour race at Spa in Belgium, finishing in second place overall. The 1971 success proved to be the springboard for an enviable record on the track that has continued to this day and has formed a cornerstone of the AMG philosophy (see AMG racing history at end of this section)”

ads from the past.

when i was young, my father had a gigantic collection of national geographic magazines in the garage—in boxes. i must have been about 6 or 7 years old when i found these boxes. i used to look for african women showing their, erm, breasts—but mainly i used to look through them to see the amazing car ads they had. each magazine would contain at least 5 different cars in various spreads in the front cover, back cover, and in the middle as well. they were great! anytime i see 70s car ads now, i think of those national geographic magazines….

here are some cool vintage ads:
