Bentley Continental GT……rallying!?

Well here’s something i’ve never seen! A luxurious, heavy, Hermes shopping bag-filled, leather wrapped interior Bentley Continental GT being given a rally stage work out by ex-Mini driver Kris Meeke!  Fantastic!

Apparently this is being filmed for a future episode of Top Gear featuring James May.  Why does this not surprise me?

iPad getting EVO, Octane, Top Gear magazines….

I’m a big fan of the iPad, even though i don’t own one yet.  The iPod Touch i have lost recently was one of the best little electronic devices i’ve ever owned; so versatile and useful.  I’m definitely getting an iPad, just not right now as i need a new laptop first!

The era of the ‘digital magazine’ is now upon us, and the UK magazines are coming to the iPad!

pricing @ Zinio:

EVO Magazine $4.96 ea. or subscription of 12 digital issues for $50.32
Octane Magazine $4.96 ea. or subscription of 12 digital issues for $50.32
Top Gear Magazine $5.27 per issue with no subscription available.

not a bad deal, considering that a physical subscription often runs like $90 on these imported magazines.  Plus you get to have them on your iPad for further easy access! VERY COOL! i’m sure this is just the beginning.  Still haven’t heard anything about my favourite UK car mag Car though.

Ron Dennis is a moron.

Ron Dennis has always been a whining dork, from the days of the McLaren F1 team and his constant denial and complaining about rules, races, and results. Alright, so i don’t care if Ron Dennis doesn’t like the Bugatti Veyron, knowing he has such close ties to McLaren and the McLaren F1, however to call one of the greatest pieces of automotive engineering a “piece of junk” is a bit of a jealous rant, innit?  I don’t think anyone can deny the abillity of the Veyron, no matter how much one doesn’t like it or doesn’t think it’s all it’s cracked up to be.  However, the sort of comment Dennis gave is one that shows me he is simply frustrated and isn’t really thinking clearly when it comes to making a comment about the Bugatti.  Nice one Ron, you sound like a 15 year-old kid at the parking lot with a rusty civic, who calls an M3 or an S4 “junk” because it’s not theirs….

IEDEI VERDICT? I think the Veyron would handily out-accelerate the McLaren F1 after speeds of 120 MPH…..whether the Top Gear test was ‘staged’ or not doesn’t affect my opinion….but the Veyron clearly has MUCH more power, great aerodynamics, and a proven top speed greater than the F1.  NOBODY is going to deny that the Macca F1 was a great car, but it is not invincible.  He also mentions the Veyron would get ‘bogged’ for launch after the clutch was dropped—-BUT THE VEYRON HAS NO CLUTCH!  Fail.  End of story.

Top Gear & Lancia.

This past sunday night, the latest episode of TOP GEAR featured Lancia as the company who has made the most number of ‘great’ cars.  It was a fantastic episode, and a MUST watch for any italian car fan and especially for anyone into Lancias.

Here are the videos from that show, in 2 parts:

Mercedes progress on gullwing coupe revival

Well, it’s undoubtedly one of the great icons in automotive history, the famous Gullwing Mercedes coupes of the 50s.  We all know that Mercedes has been testing prototypes of the car very openly…and although very concealed, have provided insight into the direction MB are headed in…

Below are some ‘new’ sketches found on the Top Gear site, along with a couple original spy photos and what Top Gear claim, are the ‘actual’ interior shots of the production car.   Either way, the car looks fantastic.  Can’t wait to see the final product.

Why Jeremy Clarkson makes me laugh…

Jeremy Clarkson is by far one of the more entertaining and interesting reads around. Aside from his bizarre, over the Top Gear performances, he spends plenty of time writing articles about cars in various publications. Here is a bit of glory from The Times Online about the, erm, glorious Chrysler Sebring

Many people imagine when they rent a convertible in America that they’ll be thumping down Highway 1 under a blazing sky in a throbbing Corvette or an evocative Mustang. Yum yum, they think. Freedom. Sunshine. A V8 bass line. Engineer boots, leather jackets and tight blue jeans. The American dream. Sadly, however, most tourists end up with a Chrysler Sebring convertible, which is almost certainly the worst car in the entire world.

Fantastic. I always feel this way when i end up with a rubbish rental car at the local Hertz dealer when my car is in service, OR when i’m traveling. Yeah, i know some people i know don’t really like Mr. Clarkson—–but i find him most entertaining.
