time to let Tesla Motors fade away

Tesla Motors has never been a company which has been able to back up their rhetoric with a product as advertised, market or sell anything other than a rebodied Lotus Elise with a bunch of batteries in it, OR bring anything to the market as they’ve promised in the past.  Instead, they have sucked money out of the US Government, Toyota, and floating a stock IPO.  What’s the result?  Well the US Government had given them $465m in financial grants, and they have produced 1000 jobs.  really? Where did that money go?

Word to Tesla—-if you’re going to pull a scam, don’t get the government involved—–because YOU are gonna get burned in the end.   The public has their eye on you, and the image of Tesla Motors ain’t so good right now.  I’m not sure what kind of dream land the people in this company think they’re in, however in my opinion “all hype and dead products” companies like Tesla should be left out to dry.

Here’s to the US government NOT granting you more money, as you are asking.  Maybe they’ll get smart and fund a company that doesn’t talk so much smack, and actually produces something worthwhile.

To Tesla?  If you convince me that you have a product worth developing and selling, i might retract these opinions; but as of right now I have no reason to believe any of this is worth taxpayer money.  Everything i’ve seen by Tesla looks like a business pitch, an opportunistic one at that.

foto of the day. SLK AMG.

I’m really not into roadsters, but I’ve always had a huge soft spot for AMG SLKs, especially as their exhaust note sounds like rumbling madness…..love em.  The folding hard top gives them great proportions…

IEDEI catches the ‘new’ 370z Roadster in the wild…

Actually….I took this photo about 3 or 4 months ago…(maybe longer?) as this 370Z Roadster was parked near my flat here in Brooklyn.  I forgot to post this back then, and now i’ve come to realise that this car still hasn’t been released! So i’m posting it now.  It wasn’t exactly ‘nice’ to look at, but wasn’t terrible either.

VW buys out Karmann & plans new car.

Karmann was of course made famous by the strange and interesting Karmann Ghia, which used Beetle underpinnings with a much prettier and more interesting body shell to create something interesting with.  Of course the company went on to build other cars with VW, and with other companies (Let’s try to forget that Karmann built the Chrysler Crossfire convertibles…which were truly terrible).

The company went bust recently, and now VW has announced that they will be buying all of the assets, and also will plan to build a ‘new’ car using their facilities.  Maybe they’ll bring back a ‘modern’ Karmann Ghia? That would be damn interesting.  Most likely suspect is the upcoming Bluesport roadster.

Mercedes-Benz goes SUPER retro! F-Cell Roadster Concept

mercedes-benz-f-cell-roadster-15

Going back to the 60s for design? MB has decided that it’s going back to the 80s………..the 1880s! The new F-Cell Roadster Concept takes the design from the original, first car ever produced in the world—-the 1886 buggy made by Mercedes Benz!

Full details are not out yet, but the car is controlled by a joystick,  has a top speed of only 25 km/h, and a hydrogen fuel cell technology for power.  I really dig the stitched leather seats, which are laying over the carbon fibre seats (imagine that on a 1886 car!).  The body is composed of lightweight carbon fibre and F1 type fibreglass.  Very interesting stuff…click here to see more photos! concept car wasteland: 1955 Cadillac La Salle Roadster.

55cadillac_lasalle_ii_2

The Cadillac XLR is probably the worst example of Cadillac trying to build its own Corvette…it’s merely an overpriced, overstyled, old-man example of a Corvette.  I’m not sure why ANYONE would buy one.

Back in 1955, Cadillac had a go at reviving the “La Salle” nameplate that they had stopped producing back in 1941.  What they came up with were 2 models, a sedan and a roadster.  The roadster is very interesting, a low slung, strangely designed, overly complex, italian-looking design with some pretty cool design features.  It looks about the size of an original Corvette, and even has some similar proportions—however i think it actually looked much cooler than those early Corvettes.  Harley Earl was in charge of this project as well….and its destiny was solely confined to the concept car wasteland!

This car was sent to the junkyard to be destroyed…..but apparently a man in Michigan FOUND the car there, and has plans to restore it.
