IEDEI Investigation! Pantera?

So back in 2007 and 2008, there was a mystery supercar being spotted around the UK——people thought it was a Lotus or a McLaren prototype.  I remember reading that it was the next generation Esprit, the early working prototype of the MP12, and even heard Noble being thrown around.

speculation:

Eventually, some people decided that it was some obscure, unknown supercar known as the “MCE MC1”, which has since dissappeared into nowhereland.  Here’s the original article Car published on the matter:

pics from that time:

So i had forgotten about this car—–even though they ‘claimed’ it was something called the  “Spectre” or “MCE”.

Yesterday, my friend Ron Southern, who is a fellow Audi TT owner and a De Tomaso Pantera owner and enthusiast, showed me this.  THE SAME car exiting the grounds of the De Tomaso factory!  Could it be that this is after all the ‘new’ De Tomaso Pantera? It certainly looks 100% the same as the 2007 car which was mysteriously being spotted around town.  This video was uploaded on YouTube May 2nd, 2011.

So it seems that either that is a new Pantera OR a car that is being evaluated by the newly resurrected De Tomaso as a possible base for a Pantera.

Like the Porsche Panamera, this is another car whose styling really didn’t sit well with me when i first saw it—–but a car which REALLY grew on me over the past few years.  I love the weird back end, and and I think they have plenty of road presence and attitude.  A stellar $90k car now available 2nd hand in the $40-50k range.  500hp and a hell of a performer…a shark.

IEDEI vs. Toyota Prius (Round 1)

toyota_prius

I’m really hoping some of you reach this blog, while researching information about the Toyota Prius.  If you were googling for reliability, pricing, consumer reviews, problems, troubleshooting, whatever.

Let’s start by stating the obvious; the Toyota Prius is a TERRIBLE TERRIBLE car.  It is SLOW, it is severely UGLY, it handles like feces, and it quite simply lacks any character.  The car is all hype, and for the several thousands upon thousands of minions who were too dim to actually bother trying to find a proper car and instead ended up with a Prius; think about what this car says about you.

Why bother dressing in a suit to go to work in a Prius?  You’ve already told the world you don’t give a crap what you look like; which is exactly why you’ve rolled into the work parking lot driving a misproportioned wedge.

You wanted economy……OHHHHHHH.  So why have you not picked up a hugely efficient new Diesel which runs clean without spilling Nickel into the environment like the cancerous Prius seems to do.  Audi, VW, and BMW are all making solid diesel cars at the moment.  You can’t afford an Audi or BMW? Fine…..then drive over to the VW dealership and get a Rabbit (Golf in 2010) or Jetta TDI.  You’ll pull a solid 40-50mpg everywhere you go—and it won’t take you 15 years to get to 60mph.  More than that though, your friends will like you a little bit more, and the grass on your lawn will STILL be growing greener than ever.

Saving a few $$$ is not worth making an ass out of yourself.  The truth of the matter is; people hate seeing a Toyota Prius in front of them on the freeway, or getting stuck behind one in the city is generally worse than getting stuck behind a bus. Occasionally, you’ll see a minion of a human driving a Prius really really really fast (which is generally 40-50mph….fast for a Prion…err..Prius) and doing all sorts of weird maneuvers trying to draw attention to their strange little car.  Sometimes I wonder if these people think they are driving a Toyota Racing Development (TRD) tuned sports car?  Do they KNOW how slow and underperforming of a car they are actually driving?

You are NOT making the world a better place by buying a Prius.   You’re just making yourself look like a twit.

If I had extra money lying around, I would buy a Prius—-to have it junked and crushed for kicks!

Camaro Vs. Camaro.

I was born and raised in Detroit. I know what an original late 60s Camaro is supposed to look like, and while Chevrolet can desperately try to associate this new 2010 Chevy Camaro as a throwback to the original, it is clearly NOT a clone of the original.

The recent release of the Dodge Challenger, was a blatant style tribute to the original 197o Challenger, although as previously discussed on IEDEI—not an especially accurate or interesting design job.

The 2010 Chevy Camaro is a robotic, hi-tech, warped, twisted, version of the original Chevy Camaro.  I know for a fact (from people who work close to GM), that when this Camaro was designed as a concept a few years ago for the North American International Auto Show—its conception was rushed and pushed out to the public without putting much care into the design. Fortunately for GM, the design was successful with the Auto Show crowd—–the same sad crowd who wait in lines to sit in cars like the Dodge Avenger. Not really the crowd you want telling you what to put in production, is it?

Either way, the new car will sell by the bucketloads, and for Detroit’s sake—i do hope GM recover from their dire puddle they’re sitting in at the moment. I hope it shakes them up, and they stop producing rubbish cars and get back to the glory of the 50s and 60s.
