origins of IEDEI (2004-2007)

Far before IEDEI was turned into a car blog, (then subsequently shut as that) there was a series of photographs I was putting together between 2004 and 2007 for which I was using the “IEDEI” label.  There were supposed to be 1000 of them (youthful overambition), however in the end only 15 or 20 were made.   Photography, however, is about to make its way back to me big time in the next few weeks and months—with a purchase of a very special camera!

Here are some of those “original” IEDEI photos taken between 2004 and 2007….and displayed with various iterations of the IEDEI logo—-some cool, some not so much!  Either way, they are inspiring to the future of this site and remind me of what originally started the site.

the return of IEDEI.

IEDEI is returning.

However, there are some changes.

The automotive archive for the past 4 years will remain, however this site is evolving into a site about much more than just automobiles.  My thoughts are evolving, and so IEDEI will also evolve.  From the beginning, the site was never meant to turn into a site only about the automobile—however unfortunately that is what happened to the site.  There will occasionally be articles about automobiles, however if one is expecting to find petrol being pumped through your monitor on every visit; this will not be the case.  There is much to see, much to appreciate, and much to investigate.  Onwards and onwards!

I hope you enjoy the new IEDEI.  If you ever want to contribute or if you have something fascinating (remember, not just automobile related)—please email me at IEDEIblog@gmail.com

I also want to thank the many of you who took the time to e-mail you all the kind words and wishes in regards to the blog ending a couple of months ago.  It was very nice to read your mails, and i’m still catching up on writing you all back.  I felt it was time to ‘start a new idea’….however i felt this site was already so developed and had such a lovely title and image, that it would just be more interesting to start a ‘2nd phase’ of this.

(the photo above was published in a 1931 copy of The Country Gentleman was a prediction of how a farmer will control his crops in the year 2030.  Nice flat screen TV design, huh?)

IEDEI: The Greatest Hits megapost.

To celebrate crossing the 1 million visit mark this week, this is a monster post of some of my favourite photos and automobiles posted on IEDEI from the past couple of years.  I originally started this blog to catalogue my favourite automobiles and photographs, and it is still what I do—-however along the way I have met lots of great people, shared lots of interesting stories, and have learned even more than I already knew about the world of motoring.

srcs: too many to list! each source is listed in the original IEDEI post where these pics are taken from.

the rise of IEDEI. and thanks.

Yes I am addicted to looking at statistics….not because I am trying to make money or trying to get famous—-but because to me statistics is progress!  It also means that there are more people into cool motor cars  and ideas who share common passions…and that is a great feeling!

IEDEI’s weekly statistics from August 2011 to March 2012.  Readership has tripled.

I felt I should share how quickly this place is expanding, because in the 3+ years I have been publishing stuff here, i have never seen such a dramatic rise in readership as I’m seeing now—–for which I just want to say THANKS to all of you for checking out the occasional articles and for sharing them with your friends/forums/facebook communities.   Also thanks to all the great blogs, many of which are great friends of mine for creating a very cool underground ‘gang’ of interesting car blogs.  Many of which you can find on my ‘other blogs’ section at the bottom of this page.

In celebration, i have also started a Twitter account, to get instant updates with new posts and articles:

IEDEI Twitter

Furthermore, if anyone would like to write an article for IEDEI, feel free to shoot me  an email with your ideas—-as i really dig contributions here, and would love to see other people’s mad ideas come to fruition!

welcome to the redesigned IEDEI (v. 3.0)

(a picture of the original 2008 blog style below)

This is the 3rd major redesign in IEDEI history—–and quite a large one at that.  Learning CSS is harder than it seems—but i’m glad Sobia (my wife) is a bit of a badass when it comes to web development and helped me iron out a few details—although the design and ideas are solely mine.

All hail the next era of the cool automotive blog.  IEDEI was a unique idea when i launched it over 3 years ago—-and remains a unique idea, so unique that I can’t even figure out what it is supposed to be sometimes.  That being said—I have some interesting ideas for the “IEDEI” badge in the coming times…..more details in 2012.

Keep the petrol pumping, and the cylinders humping.

IEDEI going to Petit Le Mans.

The race is this Saturday—-in Atlanta, Georgia, and IEDEI-Audiphile will be there in full force with the Audi corral in the hospitality suite starting from Friday!  This is my first attending of an endurance race, and i’m damn excited to see my favourite race car (Audi R18 TDI) battle it out with Peugeot!  Expect plenty and lots of pics on Audiphile and here on IEDEI.

1000th post.

Hard to believe that after 2 years & 11 months, this is the 1000th post for the IEDEI Blog.  I thank everyone who comes here once in a while to check out the site, and for the cool people i’ve met and spoken with over e-mail about automobiles, motoring, lifestyle, and cool stuff.

I started IEDEI because I felt i thought too much about cars and wanted to share some stuff with people—-not much has changed, and I hope to continue sharing stuff and finding more great stuff from other people.

cheers & and thanks for staying in touch,

-Syed

IEDEI is away for the next week, BUT…..

I’ll be out of town to Chicago for a conference, AND I had some choices when it came down to what my rental car would be.  I usually pick the smallest cars, as they are the most fun to throw around recklessly most economical, but this time I changed my initial selection.  WHY? Because i’ve decided for the next 7 or 8 days, i am going to LIVE with a Ford Fusion Hybrid rental car…just to find out what it feels like to live with a hybrid car.  This should be fascinating…i’m not sure what to expect.

I didn’t expect Hybrid rentals to be so cheap, however the Fusion Hybrid was less than the equivelant gas model….$180 for 7 days? pretty good deal, i reckon!

So even though IEDEI is away formally this week, i’m going to try to pop in and leave some short observations about the rental car at some point!

For the first time since I started this blog about 16 months ago, it recieved more than 1000 unique views for just today.  That’s a milestone!  Cheers to all the IEDEI friends out there, and let’s aim for 2000 hits a day!

Time to celebrate with a picture of our spiritual webmaster, Steve McQueen!

IEDEI is more than 1 year old.

96281-119875-one-year-later_large

It’s been a great year for IEDEI.  What started off as a blog getting 500 unique hits a month is now getting 500-1000 hits a DAY. It’s nice to know that there are still readers and petrolheads watching little blogs like this one, to get some cool photos or a cool video or link to add to their day.

I have alot of fun putting this blog together.  The blog was redesigned last month with a custom coding, and I think it’s working quite well.  There are some small modifications that will keep happening over the coming months, but the template is set.

KEEP ROLLIN AND KEEP MOTORING!

cheers

IEDEI.
