ISAT Berlinette Project.

The greatest car in the world…well, ever….is being re-imagined by students and teachers of the ISAT (Institut Supérieur de l’Automobile et des Transports) of France and being presented at this week’s Paris Motor Show as a concept study!  Renault’s recent glory of the A110-50 was a modernized NEW car, whereas this study takes great homage from the original, with mild reinterpretation of details (lights, fenders, etc).  The result is difficult to see in this mystery-filled video teaser—–but I am very intrigued by what I see already!  Good on ya, kids!

the saddest junkyard.

I was thoroughly intrigued when I was told about Gerard Gombert by my friend Misi from the superb Stipistop At first i was enthralled and so excited to learn that a hardcore automobile enthusiast and hermit had aggregated a massive collection of glorious race cars, sports cars, and supercars.  My excitement soon turned into anger when I read this written on Forocoches by “Felishuko” (who assumingly took some of the following photos):

“The sad part is that none of this is available and that after his death, his will says, “the whole lot will be crushed.””

Excuse me while I put my *face in palm*.  Let me just show you a bit of what exactly lies in his garden junkyard. The photos are of graphic degredation and deterioration, especially when understanding what the ultimate fate is going to be of these cars.  Mr. Gombert is said to be an old-school race car driver himself; so then we can assume that he is the real deal.

I will also extend a word to Mr. Gombert (who will likely never read this!) saying that If you are worried about someone monetizing these cars into something and using them to achieve wealth, I can promise you that there are enthusiasts in the world who will NOT do this….they don’t exist at RM auctions, Christie’s auctions, or any other high-brow, artificialized trader market—they do exist in the hearts and minds of true enthusiasts who don’t love cars for money; they love cars for their history, engineering, design, and the feeling they provide.  In fact, some of them at least deserve places in a museum as you’ll see in the photos below.

These cars are serving life in prison, with no parole, and ready for the death sentence:

Alpine A310s:

Alpine A110s (oh the horror…..)

Lotus 30 (oh man…):

At least 2 Lamborghini Miuras (not pictured)

but by far….the most painful thing kept in this junkyard is the 1968 Le Mans class-winning Alpine A210.  IT MUST BE RESCUED!

thanks to Misi for tipping me about this!

Alpines at Le Mans. (videos)

These are just some amazing videos…..everytime i see the race-prepped Alpine screaming down regular streets as shown in the 1963 video, the hairs on the back of my neck stand up! even though we can’t hear them, they just look epic cruising with regular traffic.   Some wonderful behind-the-scenes footage in this videos as well, of the construction and of the founder of Alpine, Jean Redele.

video heaven…for me.  my broken french skills help me understand some of these…..as they are both in french.

Audi conquers Le Mans 2010. 1-2-3.

Monsieur Peugeot must be pissed!  Audi delivered their TDI power reliably, taking on an defeating Peugeot on their home turf.  Audi is now tied with Ferrari for all time wins there, with Porsche leading everybody.

Audi USA have a flickr photostream going on with 100s of photos of the Le Mans weekend.  Here are some of my favourites of the R15 TDI.  See the rest at: http://www.flickr.com/photos/audiusa

a proud day to be an Audiphile as I am.

BMW enters Le Mans GT2 class

BMW hasn’t raced in Le Mans for over 11 years, since they ran the V10 Prototype in 1999.  As the cars on the lineup for the 2010 Le Mans were revealed, it appears 2 BMW E92 M3s are registered in the GT2 class!

Seeing as BMW has pulled out of Formula One, it appears they are redistributing some of their racing technology, staff, and resources into various ‘other’ forms of motorsports.  Should be interesting to see how they do in the competitive GT2 class against C6 Corvettes, Porsches, and Ferraris.

Thanks to Jalopnik for the tip!
