2012 Porsche 911. it looks different!?

Well it doesn’t look that different, but there are some significant styling differences noticeable from these spy pics posted on Motor Authority.

The front nose is definitely higher, and the headlights are more upright, reminiscent of older 911s (ding ding….points for Porsche already!).  Supposedly this is due to stricter EU pedestrian safety laws, but I like to think it’s due to taking the 911 back to its stylish roots!

I’m not sure what they are trying to do with the rear, and I get the feeling that the spoiler on this mule has been heavily camouflaged and subsequently distorted from the look it will have in production.  I think that ‘whale tale’ is to throw off the pundits, or is it? Time will tell.

IEDEI Solutions: Hey Volkswagen! Buy Saab!

Yeah, that’s right.  I think VW should buy Saab.  Why? Here are my reasons.

1. SAAB hasn’t made a profit in years, and likely has debts.  VW has a huge amount of money at the moment, and is one of the only companies that can absorb the debt AND has the ability to bring Saab back into the global auto market with shared platforms, new engines, and most of all a brand identity.

2. Volkswagen’s global auto empire.  the Volkswagen Auto Group spans from Germany to Spain to Czech to Italy to all sorts of smaller conglomerates in China and South America, and what better international frontier than Scandinavia.  Yeah, VW needs a Swedish side to it.

3. F*ck Koeniggsegg….BUY THEM AS WELL if you want.

4. Relaunch a Saab 900 on the VW Golf platform, as a smaller, more practical solution built with a SAAB image……and with SAAB personality.

5. Launch the ‘new’ 9-5 (which i love the styling of….) on a VW/AUDI platform (A4 or A6?).

6. Make it a specialized brand with profitability and character.

7. Cancel silly developments like those Saab SUVs that GM was doing….

8. IEDEI told you to.

COME ON VOLKSWAGEN! you know you want some Swedish in yer.

Cadillac finally goes weird and interesting.

The last TRULY interesting design that Cadillac made was in the shape of those bizarre and strange early 1980s Sevilles.  I know, because my father had one back in the day.  PINK with dark red velvet.  Oh the horrors of pure luxury….but i loved that car when i was a kid.  Mainly because it had so many cool digital things on the inside.

The CTS-V is fast…blah blah blah blah…but super boring.  I guess that was the point.  but THIS! it actually looks interesting, and they’re calling it the CTS Coupe.

from Motor Authority:

At launch, the CTS Coupe will only be available with GM’s 3.6-liter direct injected V-6, which is good for 304 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque and an EPA-estimated fuel economy of up to 27 mpg on the highway and 25 mpg in the city. A 6-speed manual transmission comes fitted as standard, while a 6-speed automatic with paddle shifters for pseudo manual control is offered as an option.

VW buys out Karmann & plans new car.

Karmann was of course made famous by the strange and interesting Karmann Ghia, which used Beetle underpinnings with a much prettier and more interesting body shell to create something interesting with.  Of course the company went on to build other cars with VW, and with other companies (Let’s try to forget that Karmann built the Chrysler Crossfire convertibles…which were truly terrible).

The company went bust recently, and now VW has announced that they will be buying all of the assets, and also will plan to build a ‘new’ car using their facilities.  Maybe they’ll bring back a ‘modern’ Karmann Ghia? That would be damn interesting.  Most likely suspect is the upcoming Bluesport roadster.

Future Honda S2000?

The Honda S2000 is dead.  I’ve got a sneaking feeling that it WILL be back quite shortly, in altered and new form of course.  These are some interesting renderings from Grid/3dLuvr about a possible idea.  Note that they have a striking similarity to the outgoing model, however it’s all tweaked up with added styling cues.  Reminds me alog of the MB Gullwing that was debut’d recently…

the resurrection of De Tomaso!

Autoweek is reporting that a 79 year-old former FIAT executive named Gian Mario Rossignolo is plotting to bring back the legendary De Tomaso name. Apparently he purchased the rights to the name from a bankruptcy court in Italy recently.

The launch lineup will consist of a crossover (????), a luxury sedan, and a coupe starting in 2011.  Yeah, it doesn’t sound all that promising by words, but here’s hoping they ditch the sedan and crossover idea and concentrate on coming up with a cool sports car for consumption.

supercar FAIL? Lexus LF-A

11-lexus-lfa-press

Who is gonna buy a  $200k+ Lexus?  I know most people who are shopping for a car with a $200k budget are certainly NOT going to.  So who is gonna buy it? The Japanese, probably…and maybe some arab and korean billionaires.  Who is gonna ditch a Lambo to buy this? or a GT3? or an F458 Italia?

Obviously, Lexus are making this car for image’s sake—however it certainly doesn’t have a classic shape in any way, in fact it reminds me (almost a little too much) of those awkward “sports cars’ they used to sell in the 80s and 90s—like the Dodge Stealth, Subaru SVX, and Nissan 300zx.  Cheesy, at best…

So congratulations Lexus, you’ve built one hell of an ugly supercar.  But what can it do?  Looks like pretty standard supercar stuff as you can read below.  Nothing a Porsche turbo can’t deal with…

LImited to 500 cars

560hp. 4.8L V10. 8500 rpm redline.

3265 pounds.

0-60 in 3.7 seconds. Top Speed 201 mph

Price: est. $200k

rendering of a new Lancia Delta HF

luis_camino_lancia_delta_hf_render-02The original Lancia Delta Integrale was a beast of a car.  Obviously we never recieved it imported to the USA, so it was added to the mental list of “yes i want but i cannot have” and put aside into the closet.

Lately there’s been some talk of Chryslers being sold here as rebadged Lancia Deltas (see article http://www.motorauthority.com/blog/1036481_chrysler-lancia-to-share-products-delta-could-come-to-u-s ).

Could this mean that if a Delta Integrale or Delta HF is produced, then we might see one? Maybe as an ‘SRT’ model?  Dodge Delta HF?  Sounds funny i know…but it would be fantastic!

I can’t tell you what the article says, because i don’t know spanish.  But the photos are great!

Thanks to Colla Verglas for the info: http://collaverglas.net/2009/10/17/per-somiar-que-no-quedi-lancia-delta-hf-per-luis-camino/

The car FIAT (Alfa Romeo) needs to bring to the USA…

Well, it’s been years of keeping fingers crossed for Alfa Romeos and Fiats to start coming to the USA.  Every few months, I see a ‘new’ article stating FIAT’s intent or specific predictions of import plans, or ‘new’ ideas of how FIAT will support bringing their italian-bred machinery back to the US market.

ALFA ROMEO 149 GTA (Milano)

Alfa Romeo 149 GTA

So it’s too late to ask for a 147 GTA as it is being soon discontinued in favour of the new 149.  Which is why we are gonna ask for that!  A lower priced, italian hatchback with some guts and style is EXACTLY what Alfa Romeo should bring to the US market upon their return.  I really hope they don’t blur clear thoughts and think that all they need to bring back are ‘luxury’ cars….Alfa needs to bring cars with SOUL.  Small cars that feel more expensive, perform well, and are fun to own.  I can’t think of anything better than a GTA hatchback for the resurrection of the Alfa Romeo brand in the USA.

Audi E-Tron Concept = 3rd Generation TT/R4?

So if you look at the pictures of the new Audi E-Tron concept, the car looks MUCH smaller than an R8.  It’s been described by some media as ‘wider and shorter than a Boxster”.  So is this the much rumoured debut of the Audi R4?

IT SEEMS LIKE IT IS!

VW board murders the Cayenne and Panamera…

2008_Porsche_Cayenne_ext_1 copy

porsche-panamera copy

…and simultaneously gives Porsche a big kick in the nuts.

I love Porsches, and i’ve wanted one ever since I was a kid; I guess i would be joined by MOST men in saying that Porsches are the holy grail of motoring for alot of us.  But in the last several years, the 911 has been desirable; however Porsche as a brand has become impure, commercialized, and devoid of the ‘purity’ character it used to carry.

The Cayenne has always been a royal waste of space.  It is truly a rebadged VW Touraeg, whether one wants to believe it or not.  It is also ugly as sin, driven primarily by women who don’t give a damn about driving dynamics, and was perfectly molded for a nice parking spot in front of a Starbucks to collect an afternoon latte more than actual driving…

The Panamera is a Porsche designing FAIL.  There really is no other way to look at the car.  I don’t care how fast it is, how good it is, or how much technical achievement it has…..Porsches were never made to be 4-doors (aside from special projects like the Audi-Porsche RS2 Avant)….and If Porsche recently became so keen to produce the Panamera, then they have really lost the plot.

So it seems the Cayenne and Panamera will continue until 2016, when their current run will end—-and they will both end! Discontinued!

BRAVO VW BOARD!! Maybe you will sort out Porsche by cracking them a kick in the nuts for their recent failures…..and maybe you can tell Koeniggsegg to sort out Saab while you’re at it!

NEW Bugatti on the way?

373911796

Rumour, according to Jalopnik this morning was that there was some sort of ‘secret’ Bugatti 100 year anniversary event, by invitation only—where photos of a special car which is gonna be released to coincide with the 100 year anniversary, were leaked (see above photo!).  Supposedly, this car is going to be debut’d at the Frankfurt Auto Show in the autumn.

Rumours are saying it’s a sedan—they’re probably right, but here’s hoping that it is a grand touring coupe.  That would be FLY.

something like this, maybe?

Alfa Romeo 149 to the USA

alfa-149-2010.jpg

Since Fiat is on its way back to the US market, using Chrysler like human traffic to do so—i’m more excited about the return of Alfa Romeo.  FOR YEARS now, we’ve been hearing rumours about Alfa’s return to the US.  Since 2006 or so, we’ve been holding our breath….but now it seems it would be practical with a foundation built to support the return of Alfa.

The 8C has already been on sale here for several months, but what else will they bring?  The latest sources are saying the 149 (replacement for the Alfa 147) will also be making a move stateside, possibly renamed as the Milano.

I think that would be THE wisest car to bring to the US market.  Affordable, classy, and a true competitor to the VW Golf, Audi A3, and the next BMW 1-series (out in 2010/2011 probably).  If they price it in the low $20k range, keep the styling as shown in the above photo rendering, and bring the old-school Alfa Romeo attitude with it—-i’m pretty sure Alfa Romeo can bounce back in a very positive way in the US market.

COME ON ALFA! Bring it….
