Well it doesn’t look that different, but there are some significant styling differences noticeable from these spy pics posted on Motor Authority.
The front nose is definitely higher, and the headlights are more upright, reminiscent of older 911s (ding ding….points for Porsche already!). Supposedly this is due to stricter EU pedestrian safety laws, but I like to think it’s due to taking the 911 back to its stylish roots!
I’m not sure what they are trying to do with the rear, and I get the feeling that the spoiler on this mule has been heavily camouflaged and subsequently distorted from the look it will have in production. I think that ‘whale tale’ is to throw off the pundits, or is it? Time will tell.
“A new film exploring the life and crimes of Serbian Vlada Vasiljevic premiered earlier this week in Amsterdam. Titled The Belgrade Phantom, for Vasiljevic’s nickname, the story follows the man after he stole a white Porsche 911, and used it to torment the police over a ten day period during Serbia’s communist era.
First-time feature director Jovan Todorovic used a mix of archive footage, radio interviews, and original dramatized material to tell the story. Several car chases were shot throughout the Serbian capital of Belgrade to recreate the Phantom using his stolen Porsche to easily outrun the 60hp Zastava police cars.
In the story the Phantom gets more daring, starts stealing more white Porsches, in more risky ways, and becomes even more popular by taunting police over the radio. By the end of the ten-day stretch, the Phantom had drawn the support of tens of thousands of people, something highly unusual in the Soviet era.
For production, they used a 1979 Porsche 911 Targa, police vehicles from the era, as well as the actual car that belonged to the former dictator, Tito.”

FLASHRODS takes small die cast 1:64 cars and turns them into portable flash/jump drives! Much nicer than carrying one of those suit and tie black sandisks around, it’d be quite nice to be rollin with a 4GB GT3, wouldn’t it? Very cool and very affordable at $19 a pop! Good for holiday presents!
I’m not sure how the quality is, since i’ve never seen this in person…but the pics look good.
Sniff Petrol truly cracks me up. If you’ve never read it…go check it out —
VW Pranks Porsche (excerpt from)
“Volkswagen’s executive director of research and development, Dr Wolfgang Schiele, backs up his colleague’s Porsche prank story. ‘Oh man, did Rudi tell you about that? Dude it was awesome. All these Porsche guys are like, Boo hoo, you can’t cancel the 911 and we were like, we so can too cuz we, like, totally own your asses now, and they were all like “But it’s our core model and epitomises all our key values” and then like Tha K-man [VW executive director of engineering Dr Klaus Rieble] pretended to, like, use his phone and said “Wait, I’ll just call someone who gives a shit”. Man, it was so funny I almost puked’.”
Hearing this makes me wanna drop whatever i’m doing, and go buy a Porsche. Very cool.
thanks to superb Collas Verglas Blog for the heads up!
Best Motoring has pitted the new, uglier, boring, and uninspiring BMW Z4 against some of the usual suspects……and what was the result? Click below to watch the 7+ minute race.
Singer Vehicle Design take older 911s from 1969 to 1989 and refresh them into something completely unique and amazing. This is a complete ‘refresh’ process which targets the appearance of those early 911 RSRs and Carrera RS from the late 60s/early 70s. In actuality, i gotta say that the Singer 911 almost looks better than those originals.
according to them:
“The Singer 911 is no mere imitation, clone or retro-hot rod, but a re-interpretation and rebirth of theearly performance-focused 911’s. The new vehicle is the result of a fusion between the purity of the original 911 and modern materials, design, and updated technologies, and aftermarket experience into a unique sports car that recaptures the essence of the early 911’s golden age. The Singer 911 capitalizes on the 40 years of solutions and enhancements that have resulted from the racing aftermarket’s embracing the original 911. Borrowing the best elements from the air/oil cooled 911’s long production span such as the “chic” of the long hood pre-’74 race specials, and the engineering durability of the later cars from the 80’s and 90’s, Singer Vehicle Design capitalizes on the vast know how and evolutionary advances the original 911 has enjoyed. The experience offered by the new Singer 911 is a passionate celebration of the history making, iconic 911, and creates an enhanced sportscar that honors the original 911’s soul.”

Obviously the people in charge of naming this ‘new’ version weren’t exactly scientists in creativity, and it ALMOST sounds like they must have fired the guy responsible for naming it the day before; thus eliminating any chance of a proper name. Either way, Porsche have decided that there must be 250 people dumb enough to put down $250,000+ on what can basically only be described as a Carrera S with 20-25 extra HP and ‘special’ modern interpretations of the original 70s Carrera RS Fuchs wheels.
My solution? Buy a regular Carrera S for $80k. Buy the vinyl decals for a few hundred dollars, to get you those matte stripes……chip the engine to get you an extra 20hp (or more). Pain the car whatever colour you want, even the aviator grey-like colour this one is in. Buy the Pseudo-Fuchs wheels aftermarket. You’re still under $100k…and you’ll look damn good doing it. Skip on the polished steel lip though….i’d go solid black on the wheels.

…and simultaneously gives Porsche a big kick in the nuts.
I love Porsches, and i’ve wanted one ever since I was a kid; I guess i would be joined by MOST men in saying that Porsches are the holy grail of motoring for alot of us. But in the last several years, the 911 has been desirable; however Porsche as a brand has become impure, commercialized, and devoid of the ‘purity’ character it used to carry.
The Cayenne has always been a royal waste of space. It is truly a rebadged VW Touraeg, whether one wants to believe it or not. It is also ugly as sin, driven primarily by women who don’t give a damn about driving dynamics, and was perfectly molded for a nice parking spot in front of a Starbucks to collect an afternoon latte more than actual driving…
The Panamera is a Porsche designing FAIL. There really is no other way to look at the car. I don’t care how fast it is, how good it is, or how much technical achievement it has…..Porsches were never made to be 4-doors (aside from special projects like the Audi-Porsche RS2 Avant)….and If Porsche recently became so keen to produce the Panamera, then they have really lost the plot.
So it seems the Cayenne and Panamera will continue until 2016, when their current run will end—-and they will both end! Discontinued!
BRAVO VW BOARD!! Maybe you will sort out Porsche by cracking them a kick in the nuts for their recent failures…..and maybe you can tell Koeniggsegg to sort out Saab while you’re at it!

Well, i’m a self-confessed Audi person; however these days i’ve had an overwhelming fascination with the Audi RS2. Developed with Porsche in the mid-90s, the Audi RS2 is the beginning of the entire RS brigade that Audi would further launch afterwards.
Yes, it’s a wagon—yes it was engineered by Porsche—-and yes it’s faster from 0-30 than a McLaren F1. They never brought these to the USA, and that blows—-however word is there are a couple in the US, and a couple more that are being converted into RS2s from regular Audi 80/90. Avants…..interesting.
A friend of mine from Norway, Espen—-recently had his RS2 stolen in Norway. Those daft bastards—–you’re gonna get busted.
I WANT!
Insiders are saying that the VW-Porsche merger may end up resurrecting the defunct AUTO UNION name!
I say…….BRING IT ON!
24 Hours Of LeMans is here! Can AUDI take its R15 TDI to further its domination of the sport? Or can Peugeot finally crack the code?
My money is on the R15. Audi really knows what they’re doing on this race….

Chris Harris is by far the best automotive video reviewer i’ve seen in recent times….and this is a great review of the brand new 997 GT3 courtesy of Drivers Republic
Vodpod videos no longer available.
My friend Matteo from Switzerland has a great site called Swiss Car Sightings where he takes some great pictures of cars he sees at gatherings, around Switzerland, around the rest of europe—along with photos of some of his great cars. Among his great cars is the 964 featured in these photos along with an older 911 and the newest 997 C4S. I could analyze and look at these pics all day marking the evolution patterns….
