i’ve always been a huge fan of Rob Ijbema‘ s artwork—-i will buy a painting one of these days. Here’s another one by him of Nuvolari in his glorious Auto Union.

I like presentations, and stylistic analysis of what is being represented. I find it interesting to check out of some of the german companies to see how their website front pages compare. Yes you mind find this a bit insignificant, and without any real substance——BUT i feel it does have substance. I feel it shows the philosophies of these companies….and to whom they are catering to.
BMW: A cluttered, and slightly primitive looking site—-doesn’t really look like it is fitting in with the brand image.
AUDI: The most minimalist website out of all the 4 brands I looked at. No added frames or unnecessary features. I like the focused energy going on here—with the nice grey background.
MERCEDES-BENZ: a nice website with a photo-heavy base with border navigation on the top margin. Same type of grey shades as Audi uses; however used quite differently. The most ‘movement’ is seen on the MB site, as well as the smallest lettering.
PORSCHE: Much better than the BMW site, but still a bit dissappointing. The ‘small’ icon photos of each car on the left navigator bar is quite annoying, imo.
VW: simple and uncomplicated with a clear goal of shoving its new Jetta into sales-heaven…..
Somebody posting a ‘newer’ rallycross video reminded me of these older Rallycross videos available….this one has an A110 vs. a Stratos in the 1978 European championship! Epic cool.
These are just some amazing videos…..everytime i see the race-prepped Alpine screaming down regular streets as shown in the 1963 video, the hairs on the back of my neck stand up! even though we can’t hear them, they just look epic cruising with regular traffic. Some wonderful behind-the-scenes footage in this videos as well, of the construction and of the founder of Alpine, Jean Redele.
video heaven…for me. my broken french skills help me understand some of these…..as they are both in french.
What an amazing sound…..i’ve still heard nothing that compares. That popping is just pure EVIL.
Jalopnik found this amazing footage of Bruno Senna holding a cell phone and taping him screwing around in his F1 car at SPA. Totally unique video, gives a very different more chaotic interpretation of the feeling of being in an F1 car. Bruno Senna is a superstar for making this and uploading it himself!
Yes it is slow as a fat cow’s balls—but that’s not the point here! One of my favourite Alfas, with that glorious sound on one of my favourite tracks in the world.

I am a HUGE fan of the Porsche 911 GT3—–so i got all hot and bothered when I saw that they are offering a ‘special edition’ 911 GT3 RS 4.0.
This video is filled with a strange german man who moves his hands around too much—-but the car itself is all types of hotness. Who really cares what supercars are doing, when something this fantastic exists? Limited to 600 cars. $185k a pop.
If you haven’t seen this episode of Top Gear—-it is a classic!
The Audi R18 TDI is simply stunning—-the most striking race car i’ve seen in many, many years. I will be proud to be supporting Audi during the next Le Mans! Here it is in its full Audi Sport livery. All 3 cars! 1, 2, and 3.
I must admit I don’t know a whole lot about Caleb S. Bragg or Mercer, however I came across this foto in the fantastic Library Of Congress Archives on Flickr. Apparently from a bit of research, Bragg was the fastest qualifying race car driver in this Mercer for the 1913 Indianapolis 500. Cool foto, from a very cool archive of classic old & vintage fotos.
Documenting the trials of young drivers looking for a chance to break it in the Volkswagen Jetta TDI Cup Series. I believe the 1st show aired on April 7th on the Discovery Channel (USA). The trailer looks good! We need more good car-related TV programming!
ah, i had no idea this even existed—-a racing version of the modern Maserati Quattroporte, lovingly referred to as Evo.
This car is privately raced in the SUPERSTARS SERIES and raced this past weekend by a Swiss team at Monza. Hot stuff, yeah….
(click for hi-res version)
a couple bonus lo-res fotos of this new find.
i love these vintage programs from the original races; this one is from 1969 Lime Rock….from Progcovers
a look of disgust…(let it load completely…or save gif for best results)
(got this from Strassenversion!)
Walter Rohrl is part of the team behind the Porsche 911.
Great stuff on display in Germany at this year’s Techno Classica.

Surely it won’t happen….but quite a nice design daydream!
