1937 Auto Union Type C Streamline, driven by ROSENMEYER
I took this photo here in Brooklyn of a MKIV R32 parked on the street with a Quattro badge on the window, and Audi rings on the side. I’m not sure what to really think of it. The R32 DOES have a Quattro-like AWD system, and it also utilized the Audi-developed DSG gearbox (thanks for the correction, Bulgogibrothers!)—but it’s not an Audi!!! Debate…

BMW has decidedly become more tacky as the 90’s concluded and the 00’s began. The cars have declined, in my opinion, and their strategy, designs, and overall brand identity have undergone a process of failure. Currently their sales are dropping by the day; losing momentum to the imminent rise of Audi, Lexus, and a resurging popularity of Mercedes-Benz.
That being said, it is readily apparent these days that BMW is MOST worried about Audi and their slow and steady growth (even through the recession). So what are BMW gonna do about it?
They have released one of the cheesiest, nonsensical, and empty commercials i’ve seen in a long time. Nice one BMW. Even that previous generation Audi A4 you’ve put sort of makes the current 3-series look pale. If they had put the new B8 A4, it would have surely converted more buyers into Audi drivers than BMW ones. Ultimately, what this commercial does is make BMW drivers look worse than their current image already suggests…
And the slow decline of BMW continues…
Finally, we have a glimpse of the newest, over-the-top amazing Bugatti.
8 tail pipes, a split-opening hood, insane chrome bodywork, a split line in the front windshield, a swooping rear end reminiscent of an old Bugatti Atlantic, Veyron-esque styling cues, Bentley-like size, and an insanely evil front headlight which reminds me of that weird old horror film The Car.
As usual with Bugatti—-it is completely insane. 800hp insane. It’s got a W16 (similar to the one in the Veyron, but detuned) under the hood. I’m assuming it is AWD. Just take a bloody look at it will yer!! And watch the VIDEO at the end.
Here are the special ‘refinished” IEDEI photos of the new Bugatti 16c Galibier:
VIDEO!
…and simultaneously gives Porsche a big kick in the nuts.
I love Porsches, and i’ve wanted one ever since I was a kid; I guess i would be joined by MOST men in saying that Porsches are the holy grail of motoring for alot of us. But in the last several years, the 911 has been desirable; however Porsche as a brand has become impure, commercialized, and devoid of the ‘purity’ character it used to carry.
The Cayenne has always been a royal waste of space. It is truly a rebadged VW Touraeg, whether one wants to believe it or not. It is also ugly as sin, driven primarily by women who don’t give a damn about driving dynamics, and was perfectly molded for a nice parking spot in front of a Starbucks to collect an afternoon latte more than actual driving…
The Panamera is a Porsche designing FAIL. There really is no other way to look at the car. I don’t care how fast it is, how good it is, or how much technical achievement it has…..Porsches were never made to be 4-doors (aside from special projects like the Audi-Porsche RS2 Avant)….and If Porsche recently became so keen to produce the Panamera, then they have really lost the plot.
So it seems the Cayenne and Panamera will continue until 2016, when their current run will end—-and they will both end! Discontinued!
BRAVO VW BOARD!! Maybe you will sort out Porsche by cracking them a kick in the nuts for their recent failures…..and maybe you can tell Koeniggsegg to sort out Saab while you’re at it!

Insiders are saying that the VW-Porsche merger may end up resurrecting the defunct AUTO UNION name!
I say…….BRING IT ON!
LOVE this video. It was so badass of Audi to pop a Quattro car onto those races and circuits….and win it all…..fantastic.
Rumour, according to Jalopnik this morning was that there was some sort of ‘secret’ Bugatti 100 year anniversary event, by invitation only—where photos of a special car which is gonna be released to coincide with the 100 year anniversary, were leaked (see above photo!). Supposedly, this car is going to be debut’d at the Frankfurt Auto Show in the autumn.
Rumours are saying it’s a sedan—they’re probably right, but here’s hoping that it is a grand touring coupe. That would be FLY.
something like this, maybe?
Firstly, whatever drugs and illusionary potions the Hyundai personnel are taking must be working tremendously. I think the press led you on to believe that your Genesis sedan and coupe were worthwhile options in the luxury sedan and coupe segments. Sure….be happy and think you made a solid product. The coupe is nothing more than a cut-rate Infiniti G37 (which isn’t a good thing!) and the sedan is a virtual rear end of a BMW E60 5-series and a Lexus LS (which is also not a good thing).
I thought (and still think) it’s pretty funny that Hyundai are selling a $40,000+ car in the Genesis sedan; i certainly wouldn’t buy one even if a kimchi covered gun was pointed to my head. But hilariously enough, they’ve decided to launch a $60,000 sedan known as the Equus. It will surely handle worse than 5-series, not have the majesty of an MB E-Class or S-Class, not be as modern of stylish as an Audi A6, and will be less reliable and more boring than an Lexus LS. So do we want one?
NO THANKS, Hyundai! Oh the horror….the horror.
Bonham’s is gonna be auctioning this ultra rare 1938 Auto Union Type D in August….and the real question is whether it will break the recent 1957 Ferrari Testa Rossa’s $12.9m record breaking sale last month.
Here’s hoping it does break the record….

What a cool story this is! 21 year-old swede Ola Johansson bought a 1982 Audi Quattro Coupe for 150 Euros, with the dream of turning it into a replica 1987 Pikes Peak S1 Quattro. He had no previous experience in designing/building/engineering, and not much money to start off…..so basically he got to work!! Several months later he had a working (but dirty) version he showed at a local car show. Certain people were very impressed by his work—including people working at Koeniggsegg, who offered him a job there (!). A transformation of his car from a rusty junked Coupe to a serious Pikes Peak replica—-complete with a modded-by-koeniggsegg Porsche-sourced Audi RS2 engine!

In one of the most dramatic shifts of web community power i’ve ever seen, the core membership of Audiworld packed their bags and busted out into another brand new forum under the name Quattroworld.
Audiworld was originally started by Audi enthusiasts back in 1999 (thanks for the correction, Matt), and it turned very successful over the years—so successful that it was eventually purchased by parasitic Internet Brands, a company known for taking over forums (especially car forums). Since the takeover, IB had been desperately trying to change the format from an older open source code of KAWF to a newer, more common Vbulletin forum system.
Result? Vbulletin was completely rejected by the users of the forum.
The transition was a mess, a sloppy forum, ruined historical AW posts, and a core member base set irate by the destruction of the long standing, successful, and active Audi community. Quattroworld started itself like a makeshift emergency center, immediately launching KAWF forums which heralded a return to original AW form—and the core members piled into QW. The result? Audiworld appears all but abandoned, a mess of new members which may even be ‘hired’ by IB (people do hire forum posters online, to help promote new forums), and a core base which has left. Within 48 hours, the number of users who joined Quattroworld was close to 3000. Those 3000 undoubtedly contributed at least 80% of the posting done on Audiworld, if not more.
Verdict: the community prevailed in the end, held together like glue by an outdated, but extremely usable format which works, and allows all of Quattroworld’s users to maintain the forum architecture they grew accustomed to for so many years.
Audiworld is dead. Long live Quattroworld!
YEAH I KNOW it’s not a ‘vintage’ race car, but damn the *brand new* AUDI R15 TDI is one of the most beautiful modern race cars i’ve ever seen.
